Style Watch: Festival Fashion

10:39

Ah, summer. Every music fan's favourite time of year - once again, festival season is upon us. Although I've never been to a festival myself (shameful, I know), I'm head over heels in love with festival fashion. Today's post is all about some of my favourite festival looks, and hopefully will be a source of inspiration and ideas for those of you attending festivals this summer! It's a style that's pretty easy to master - you just need to look cool, casual but effortless - and pretty much anyone can pull it off.
Coachella is probably the biggest music festival in the U.S., and also the biggest and best source for festival style inspiration. Currently, boho reigns supreme and isn't showing any signs of slowing down. It's one of my favourite styles, as it's pretty yet incredibly cool, and always looks effortless.

Personally, I think Disney actress Vanessa Hudgens was the queen of Coachella style this year. Her gorgeous, long ombréd locks, colourful maxi dress and beautiful jewellry - this was definitely my favourite look from the festival this year. Yup, Vanessa has boho style down to a T.

It's safe to say that Alexa Chung is probably the British queen of festival style - in fact, it's claimed that she's practically its inventor. She makes fashion look so effortless and yet always keeps it simple: denim shorts and a crop top, or a simple white dress or playsuit, with flats (always wear flats) and of course, a parka just in case.

If you're looking for something a little different, you can always turn to the Jenner sisters, Kendall and Kylie, for inspiration. At this year's Coachella they rocked a number of different looks, one of them being totally gothic from head to toe, with simple black bandeau tops and shorts, a long black kimono in Kendall's case, and a black flower crown in Kylie's. They brought something different to the table, definitely making them ones to watch style-wise!
Kendall also opted for a seventies' look with a flowy, shoulderless crop top and highwaisted, flared paisley print trousers, taking a totally different spin on the typical boho-look. Of course, you can always play it safe like Kylie and stick to band tshirts, shorts, sunglasses and flats - always a cool look!

Florals and whites are a neverending trend on festival grounds, as seen on Selena Gomez (who wore both brilliantly, might I add) and Queen Bey herself, who opted for a more colourful piece and topped it off with a funky bowler hat.

For those of us on the Ireland / U.K. side of things, there is pretty much one essential: a jacket. Parkas are the more popular option, as seen on Caroline Flack, Colleen Rooney and Millie Mackintosh, below. Rock your parka over a playsuit, or even shorts and a crop top, and don your wellies - unlike Coachella, flipflops are unlikely to make an appearance at Glastonbury! I love Caroline Flack's navy parka, a slight step away from the traditional khaki green, and I adore Millie Mackintosh's matching crop top and shorts, yet she still keeps it seasonal with a pretty flower crown. A lot of people mock flower crowns, because they are becoming a bit of a festival cliché, but I say go for it! When else are you going to be able to rock a crown of flowers on your head? Never!

Of course, there are the trends and typical festival looks, but don't be afraid to experiment. You can go all out with electic pops of colour, like Chloe Norgaard at this year's Coachella, above. Festival fashion is totally open to experimentation, just don't forget those wellies!

Are you attending any music festivals this year? What do you plan on wearing? xo
