Paris Photo Diary #1

14:07

So this has been a long time coming - I didn't think it would take quite so long to sit down and write this post, yet here we are! The last time I was properly writing and posting round here was towards the end of July, just before we were due to spend two days wandering the streets of Paris. Going through the photos on my camera recently gave me such a bittersweet dose of nostalgia, I knew I couldn't leave these posts unwritten. Without further ado...

On the first day we did as much as humanly possible without collapsing from exhaustion (although we were close..). This included crepes and coffee along the Seine, visiting the Eiffel Tower (to which our hotel, the Hotel de l'Alma, was pretty close), seeing Les Invalides (a huge, fantastic looking war museum, formerly used as an army base I think), the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais, walking the length of the Champes-Elysées (and gasping at the extraordinary length of the queue outside Louis Vuitton), seeing the Arc du Triomphe, eating steak and chips at Le Dome opposite the Eiffel Tower, taking the metro out at night to a bar close to the Notre Dame, and seeing the latter lit up in all of its glory. Not to mention watching the Eiffel Tower light up on our route back to the hotel, strolling through the beautiful gardens before it only to have to run for dear life as soon as we noticed the abundance of rats scurrying about... Ah, Paris.

One of my favourite moments of the trip was seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time - just as the métro surfaced from the underground, whilst a busker played an accordion, in a truly cliché French moment. It was pretty surreal. A lot of people say it's not quite what it's cracked up to be, but I still thought it was pretty amazing to see up close, and peaking out over every building and in the middle of every junction we passed.

Keep an eye out for part two, hopefully coming soon (is it just me that finds bulk-editing photos so incredibly mundane?!)
