Yes Please | Amy Poehler

I'm a huge fan of Amy Poehler - I think she kicks ass. She's smart, witty, super cool and never afraid to speak her mind or stand up for herself - she's da bomb.

Everyone and their mother raved about Yes Please last summer when it was published, and with good reason. Yes Please is a collection of essays by Ms. Poehler, reflecting on several aspects of her childhood, present-day life and career, as well as offering up witty nuggets of life advice and behind the scenes peaks at the awesome Parks & Recreation (my favourite show ever, of course).

It's a cool insight into the life and mind of one of the coolest women in comedy, as well as being super motivational, inspirtational - it leaves you with the feeling that you, too, can kick ass, just like Amy. There are some lovely heartfelt pieces where she talks about her parents, her kids and her famous partner-in-crime, Tina Fey. It's also really interesting to read of how one actually goes about pursuing a career in comedy, and how Poehler got to where she is today.

All in all, it's a great read - the kind you can pick up and start reading at whatever chapter you like. I quite like this essay style of writing in autobiographies - they're a little less dense when they're broken up this way. If you haven't read this yet, go pick it up. Especially if you're a fan of Amy / Saturday Night Live / Parks & Recreation, etc. You'll love it.

It's a 5/5 from me.
